For Diana Walsh, writing Empty Cradle was in part an attempt to banish the shadow of her infant daughter's kidnapping from her life. The book chronicles the night, just before Christmas 1993, when her daughter Shelby was stolen by a stranger from Joseph Brant Hospital in Burlington.
