Hallo Netherlands
Olah Argentina, G'Day Australia,'您好 China, Привет  Russia,
Hola Argentina
Jak sie masz Poland? Ceśc to you!Labdien! Kā jums klājas LatviaLabdien to you!
                          Guten Tag Germany!

Hello to my neighbours in the U S of A! Or should I say neighbors :)

Peace be with you - Asalamu alaikum - in Saudi Arabia

Currently In Latvia there is a call to increase the minimum wage to 303 lats (428 euros) a month. Dear friends this is just over two dollars an hour. Consider the struggle that many families face to make ends meet.

In Germany up to 6,000 people stood by the Berlin Wall on Sunday in a growing protest against plans to knock down a section to make way for luxury homes. The original wall stretched 155 kilometres (96 miles). Today only around three kilometres still stand. I understand the protest. I am heartbroken to see the Stoney Creek Dairy demolished which was in business since 1929 and its historical significance pales in comparison.

Fairwinds Lodge in Sarnia hosted an Author Spotlight this morning for Empty Cradle
Thank you Sylvie and those who attended. Nice folks in Sarnia.

Hello my friends in Germany. I hope you enjoy this sunny week after the darkest winter in over 60 years.

On this week, anniversary of the earth quake in New Zealand, my thoughts go out to the families of those lost and harmed.

A meteor streaked across the sky above the Ural Mountains in Russia this week, injuring more than 400 people, many hurt by broken glass, and explosions. My thoughts are with those injured and their families.

Many thanks to Cat and Sue for hosting the gathering at the library last night and to Bobbie for her support. Thank you to all the patrons who attended. Keep reading!

This Summer I traveled with some great friends and visited the city that never sleeps. Who doesn't love New York?

Hello all you Creekers. I will be at the Stoney Creek Library on February 20, at 6:30 p.m to discuss Empty Cradle and to sign copies of the book. New copies will be available for
purchase.  All are welcome.

A video taped in SokolkaPoland this week shows officers slipping around in the snow while trying to catch a pig, which had bolted from a nearby farm. The film has gone viral and has caused many wisecracks. Show a little love people. The fellas were just trying to help!
Also in Poland this month the RP has submitted a draft bill allowing people to decide what gender they are at the age of 16. The bill would mean that a person could legally change their gender in court and receive a new birth certificate and name. "The times they are a changin'"

This week Taiwan and Honduras kicked off a project that will benefit children with poor eyesight who cannot afford glasses. How great to help these young ones by providing free eye exams and spectacles!

Girl Power on Valentines Day.In the Philippines, Women danced and sang music as they took part in the "One Billion Rising" campaign in Quezon City. Similar events were held all over the world in support of the campaign against violence on women and girls! Respect trumps flowers and chocolates.

Czesc to my followers in Poland
Did you know the Republic of Poland has a Population of roughly 38.5 Million People in an area of 120,725 Miles? That is about the size of New Mexico (compare @2,085,600 people).  "Poland is one of the great success stories of the former Soviet bloc. Poles have sound reasons to be proud: they have navigated the treacherous transition from Communism better than most of the post-Soviet satellite nations, and theirs is the only country in Europe to have avoided a recession during the financial crisis.*

Hello Texas friends. Thank you for reading Empty Cradle for your book clubs. I wonder if you enjoyed the Mardi Gras festival in Galveston before lent. I understand the 12 day, 11 night party is packed with tradition and more importantly, packed with fun. Either way, hope you are enjoying this month of February and the sun is shining on you!

Happy Chinese New Year.

To my friends in Israel, stay safe during these difficult times.

In Sweden, It will soon be Sami National Day. The Sami National Day falls on February 6, the day when the first Sami congress was held in 1917. This was the first time that Norwegian and Swedish Sami came together across their national borders to work together to find solutions for common problems. The day is celebrated with music, speeches and souvas, which is a savoury dish of reindeer meat! SHHH, don't tell the children.

Now that the festive period is over and the decorations have come down, most households have opted to recycle their old Christmas trees. But people in the town of Weidenthal in southern Germany have come up with a much more imaginative way of getting rid of them – by holding the world Christmas tree throwing championships. The idea behind "Knut-Fest,'" as it is known to locals, is to dispense with the Christmas festivities whilst welcoming in the New Year. Competitors are asked to bring along their old trees, stripped of lights and other decorations, and see how far they can throw them. There are three disciplines in the competition; Weitwurf (javelin-style), Hammerwurf (hammer-style) and Hochwurf (high jump-style) throwing. The overall winneris decided by the total distance achieved over the course of the day. Frank Schwender, 48, from the nearby town of Frankeneck won the tournament for an unprecedented third consecutive year. He retained his title with a total distance of 22.45 metres over the three throwing disciplines. Sounds like fun :)
